Moulding Issues

Types of mould

Many different types of mould can grow in the home, including:

  • Cladosporium: This can grow in either cool or warm areas. It may appear on fabrics and wood surfaces.
  • Aspergillus: This often grows indoors, on dust, powdery food items, and building materials, such as drywall.
  • Penicillium: This tends to grow on materials that are damaged by water. It often has a blue or green appearance.

The ideal growing conditions:

Moisture and warmth are required for mildew and mould to flourish. Mildew thrives in temperatures ranging from 25°c to 32°c and humidity levels ranging from 62% to 93%. Conversely, mould thrives in environments with a humidity level of 60% or higher and at all temperatures. Mould can thrive even in the most extreme places and in extreme conditions, such as Antarctica!
